AMBIEN Side Effects
What are the possible
Ambien side effects?
All sleep medicines such as AMBIEN have
side effects. The most common AMBIEN
side effects include:
- Daytime drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness
- Difficulty with coordination
The most commonly observed side effects
in controlled clinical trials of AMBIEN
were drowsiness (2%), dizziness (1%),
and diarrhea (1%).
You can best avoid experiencing daytime
drowsiness by taking the lowest dose
possible that will still help you sleep
at night. Talk to your doctor to find
the dose that's best for you.
A problem that may occur when sleep
medicines are stopped is known as "rebound
insomnia." wherein a person may
have more trouble sleeping the first
few nights after the medicine is discontinued
than before starting the medicine. This
problem usually disappears after 1 or
2 nights.
AMBIEN is habit forming. If you have
taken AMBIEN continuously for several
weeks, discontinuing this medication
abruptly can cause withdrawal effects.
Talk to your doctor about the safe and
proper use of AMBIEN, or if you experience
any side effect that seems unusual or
that is especially bothersome. |
